BACK
Sound designing for Chinglish was an interesting one for a couple of reasons. There were three different mobile phones that needed to ring throughout the show and these followed the casts involved. In-Ear Monitors were linked up to X-mini speakers and these placed into the pockets of actors. It was a very convincing effect as we can hear the direction of where the ringtones were coming from - from the actors themselves. I used mainly Mando-pop music mixed into ambiences for scene changes, along with the theme of the script.
Scene change music from scene 1 into scene 2 - the "journey" from an American lecture hall into Guiyang.
Scene 2 to scene 3. This cue was exciting because I had use the Vamp and Devamp function in QLab to be able to cue the ending bar anytime the scene change was done and it would be musically correct. This made the show sound much tighter than the usual fade out.
